Twitter Application for BlackBerry Launched

The official blog of BlackBerry has launched the first iteration of popular micro-blogging site Twitter for Research in Motion’s (RIM) smart-phone range.

For the time being users will have to sign up online in order to receive an invite to get the app, as it is currently available only to those with special permission.

Failing this, social networkers with BlackBerry mobiles can keep an eye on the BlackBerry blog to find out when the public version of the app is to be made available.

Twitter has been decently integrated into the BlackBerry platform, taking advantage of its push email capabilities to offer updates direct to inboxes as and when they occur.

The app also factors in link sharing by offering URL shortening from bit.ly.

Sharing photos via TwitPic is also possible and once the app is installed BlackBerry owners will have the option to share any new pictures they have captured.

The team behind the BlackBerry version of Twitter are currently testing the software extensively with the help of users from around the world.

Its extensive feature list suggests that is very near completion and should arrive on BlackBerry App World as a general release fairly soon.
