Israel’s Defense Forces are about to announce the details of a long-planned SMS alerts service to warn citizens of incoming missile attacks. The application was developed by Israel-based eViglio in cooperation with Ericsson, and is expected to be activated in June 2011.
The new service is part of effort made by IDF’s Home Front Command to integrate all emergency alerts in the country into one centralized system. eViglio’s system allows alerts to be sent to mobile phones, TV and radio stations, websites and even billboards.
With the new system, alerts will be sent to specific geographic regions based on the relevant threat. Home Front Command will be able to send a pre-programmed text message in multiple languages with the appropriate procedures for the home front.
