Phobias That Make Life Difficult

Many people suffer from a phobia of something, but it’s generally something that has little or no impact on how they life their life. However having to cope with a phobia to something you encounter everyday? Well that would be difficult to say the least.

Scary Shirt

Vestiphobia – Fear of Clothing

How can you possibly go through life scared of your own (and other people’s) clothes? What do you do? Live in a nudist colony? Have a house that backs onto a naturist beach? How do you live in the modern world, hold down a job or even have friends round? However these people manage their phobia, I hope they live somewhere warm!

Novercaphobia – Fear of Your Stepmother

Evil?

Perhaps this one all stems back to an overdose of fairytales as a child? One Cinderella story too many. How many people would believe you if you claimed that your new step mother was actually an evil queen who wanted to lock you away in a tower? It’s certainly an odd one, and if you did have to relate to you fathers new wife well, that would make family gatherings somewhat difficult.

But no where near as difficult as…

Comfy Chair?

Kathisophobia – Fear of Sitting Down

How do you get through a day when you are scared witless about sitting down? Is it a fear of the chair collapsing? Someone creeping up behind you and tipping you over? Or does it make you feel vulnderable being seated? It must make travelling awkward, how do you drive a car if you can’t sit down? Is it a fear of encountering other people who are sitting down? Perhaps they will suddenly spring up and lunge at you?

Genuphobia – Fear of Knees

Knobbly Knees

I didn’t realise knees were so scary. But thinking about it, it would mean no sitting on Santa’s Lap, no bouncing a child upon your knee and a total avoidance of shorts and beaches! No crossing your legs incase your knees touch eachother, no reassuring pat on the leg could be given or received. Its such a bizarre phobia to have, how would you explain to anyone?

Creepy Crosses

Staurophobia – Fear of a Cross or Crucifix

Imaging being terrified by such an inanimate object as a cross. You would never be able to enter a church, attend a family wedding or funeral. Breaking out in a cold sweat at the sight of someones crucifix pendant, you had better make sure that you don’t also have an aversion to garlic or else you could find people sharpening stake sized pieces of wood!
